The icons, alike prayers, are the result of the collective
creativity, laboriously shaped by many generations. The icons painter,
during the process of painting, creates only a new reproduction of the
original, seen as the Prototype. However a good painter, with very delicate
touches of tones and shads, can also express himself. The icons have a
strong spiritual significance, and despite the representation of the same
theme, are diverse - as are divers the persons that painted them.
The Byzantine icons intend to recreate and to bring to attention - in
a world turned more than ever towards the technology of the future - an
ancient knowledge, an art which today is almost forgotten, a vision of
the world as it was represented by our ancestors, to re-establish a connection
with a world of amazing beauty and spirituality.
The Byzantine icons are original works, entirely hand made using the same
technique and the same materials as those used for the antic icons. They
are unique works, where the effects of the colours are unrepeatable. They
are painted in egg-tempera, natural pigments and golden, copper or silver
foil on wood, following the canons of the Byzantine tradition and recreating
a unique work of art.
